On behalf of 11 women from the
Negev’s unrecognized villages, a petition was filed yesterday, 16 December
2009, to Israel’s High Court by the head of the local committee of the village
Qasr el-Ser, Yasmin al-Naqab Health Organization, Physicians for Human Rights,
the Galilee Society and Adalah against
the Ministry of Health, demanding the reversal of a decision to close three
Mother and Child clinics in the Negev villages of Abu Tlul (el-A’asam), Wadi
el-Ni’am and Qasr el-Ser (el-Hawashla). The organizations also demanded that
sufficient physician and nursing posts be secured at all three clinics to
ensure their proper functioning. The petition was presented by Adalah attorney
Sawsan Zaher, who requested that the court address the matter urgently.
